Wine maker notes |
This traditional Italian wine is a blend of grapes from vineyards that are located in the Veneto region. This viticultural area has a deep alluvial soil and a cool climate due to the moderating influence of the Adriatic Sea. These cool micro-climates are responsible for preserving the crisp acidity and fresh fruit character of the wine. The individual lots of hand-harvested Pinot Grigio grapes are gently whole cluster pressed to minimize any color or harsh tannin extraction, then racked to stainless steel tanks for a cold fermentation. |

Gooseneck Vineyards Pinot Grigio is a collaboration product with Cantine Volpi. Cantine Volpi is a family business that traces its roots to the end of the 19th Century. The vineyards occupy the steep slopes that traditionally enjoy the best microclimate. The soil is composed of fossil rich marl and sandstone, along with calcareous layers. From below, the hills dominate the plain with their steep slopes guarded by medieval castles. It is rare in the Italian wine world to discover a winemaker that combines the many elements necessary to produce great wines at attractive prices and in sufficient quantity to avoid strict allocation. Carlo Volpi is a winemaker who controls the best vineyards in his appellation area, state of the art vinification equipment, extensive aging cellars, and efficient bottling plant. On top of all that, Carlo Volpi is a true gentleman. The consulting enologist is one of Italy’s most renowned pioneers in the Italian wine industry, Dr. Giuliano Noe. Dr. Noe was selected at Italy’s top enologist and appointed Italy’s 2005 Winemaker of the Year set by the Gambero Rosso. The Gambero Rosso is the authority in the Italian wine industry, an equivalent to the United States Wine Spectator. Dr. Noe made his mark on Italian wines by introducing special techniques of wood aging to arrive at the so called “new style” of wine that features rounded, structured wines with soft tannins. |
