Built in 1819 by the Marquis of Stafford, the Brora distillery, or as it was originally known, Clynelish, had a slow start to provenance until they really hit the ground running in the mid 20th century. After the Second World War production hit such great levels that the creation of a second distillery, named Clynelish 2, was built alongside the original distillery in 1967 to cope with demand, with the original distillery being renamed Brora. However, just a couple of decades later the distillery officially closed its doors. Since 1983 we have not seen new Whisky produced by Brora. In 2017 Diageo announced that Brora would be relaunched following a complete renovation of the old distillery.
