Don Papa rum's story begins with Stephen Carroll's, a former Remy Cointreau executive who was inspired by the Philippines' Negros Occidental island, also known as "Sugarlandia". He founded the Bleeding Heart Rum Company in 2011 to create a premium rum using local sugarcane. The brand is named after the legendary figure Papa Isio, a 19th-century revolutionary and healer.
