Mount Gay is the world's oldest rum distillery, founded in Barbados in 1703. The brand's name honors Sir John Gay Alleyne, who managed the plantation and distillery for owner John Sober. After Alleyne's death in 1801, the Sober family renamed the estate "Mount Gay" to recognize his contributions, and the brand continues to use the purest Barbadian coral-filtered water and finest molasses in its production.
