Angostura's rum brand story began with the company's founding in 1824 by Dr. Johann Siegert in Venezuela, who first created Angostura bitters. His sons moved the business to Trinidad and, after initially blending purchased rum, built their own distillery in 1949. The company grew to become a rum producer, acquiring the Fernandes Distillery in 1973 and a history that includes the creation of famous rums like the 1919 brand.
