Rum
Bacardi's brand story began in 1862 in Santiago de Cuba when founder Facundo Bacardí Massó revolutionized rum-making by creating the world's first clear, light-bodied rum through methods like charcoal filtration and aging in white oak barrels. The brand adopted the bat as its logo after Facundo's wife, Amalia, saw bats in the original distillery rafters and suggested using them as a symbol of good health, good fortune, and family unity, which resonated with a largely illiterate Cuban population.
