Scotch
Blair Athol, which dates from 1798 is situated in Pitlochry, Perthshire and not in the village of Blair Atholl some miles to the north.
After several changes of ownership and a period of closure from 1932 to 1949, distilling restarted under the new owners, Arthur Bell & Sons. The Bell's brand was the leading whisky brand in the UK and demand led to expansion in the 1970s. Blair Athol single malt appeared in the 1980s, initially as an 8 year old. It has been available as part of the Diageo Flora & Fauna range as 12 year old in first-fill sherry casks for many years and the spirit is regularly seen in bottlings by independents.
Pitlochry is at the heart of the tourist trail and Blair Athol has run a very busy visitor centre for many years, as the Home of Bell's.
