Brora (silent) - 2017 Special Release - 1982 34 year old Whisky 70CL

$2815.07 price per bottle

2017's Special Release Brora is the sixteenth in the series from this celebrated closed coastal north Highlands distillery. Distilled in 1982, by which time far less peat was being used than during previous decade, it spent over 34 years in refill American oak hogsheads. Only 3000 bottles released. Finely integrated and smoothed out, the usual key notes of waxiness and fragrant smokiness are much reduced, while the elegant taste also offers an uncommon and attractive note of szechuan pepper. 8. 9/10 Whisky Magazine Nose: Impressively delicate and restrained at first, then a ground almond and lime cordial edge comes through. It opens to a riot of floral, orange and lemons. Palate: A huge wave of custard cream and vanilla pods hit first, then there is a gentle smoke in the background. Griddled pineapple and a hint of spice from chilli pods. Finish: Takes its time, church candles and barbour jackets. Well worth bearing with this slow magestic whisky. Once it opens up it is engaging and multi-layered.
