If you like fairy tales, you will surely love this one. Our story begins in 1966 when Henri & Francoise Leveque decided to create what will become later the Chateau de Chantegrive! They were really convinced of the potential of the Graves ”terroir”, this is the reason why they decided to sell their superb stamp collection to acquire their first two hectares. What happened next is a success story, the result of a relentless work always oriented toward the future and the new technologies combined with the unconditional need to be present among the vines with their employees. “It was a childhood dream, we made it come true” Francoise & Henri together formed a very dynamic duo, a solid visionary team, and above all: a couple of passionate wine lovers. 48 years later & 96 hectares further, the new generation of children has taken over the Chateau de Chantegrive. The five children are now managing with their mother & Marie Helene Leveque carries on with the work of her parents with a dynamic passion. Chateau de Chantegrive, which is located on the left bank of the Garonne river, 30 km (18 miles) from Bordeaux, covers a superb terroir made up of pebbles mixed with fine sand. The entire vineyard faces due south, which is a determining factor for producing top quality fruit. The Leveque family is passionate about this exceptional terroir and has done everything to provide the estate with state-of-the-art facilities that are inspired by both traditional and the latest winemaking methods. A genuine long-term strategy has been designed to enable this beautiful Graves terroir to express its full value: - plot-by-plot vineyard management - strict selection of the best fruit - careful vinification adapted to harvest conditions - meticulous ageing of red wines in a “cathedral” cellar containing more than 800 French oak barrels - a special winemaking process for the production of the reputed Graves white Chantegrive Caroline, which is made and aged in wood on fine lees in a purpose-fitted cellar These operations are all scrupulously carried out by a motivated team with advice from world-reputed winegrower and oenologist Hubert de Bouard. |
