Every barrel has crossed the equator at least four times, visited five continents, and over thirty ports. The extreme temperature variations, gentle rocking of the ship, and exposure to salty sea air all have an influence on the character of this unique whiskey. The result has a rum like richness and sweetness, complimented by salty coastal notes that are reminiscent of whiskies from the Scottish Islands. A genuine one off! Due to a massive demand from consumers, Trey has now commercialized this experiment and sent hundreds of barrels around the world. Each voyage of Jefferson?s Ocean typically crosses the equator four times, visits five continents and over 30 ports on an average sailing. Founded in 1997, Jefferson?s is the brainchild of Trey Zoeller and his father Chet, a famed bourbon historian. They were continuing a family tradition that goes back to Trey?s 8th generation grandmother who was arrested in 1799 for the ?production and sales of spirituous liquors. ? To personify the brand, they chose Thomas Jefferson?known for his curiosity and experimental spirit.
