The latest bottle in the "Moment" series from Sweden's leading whisky distillery, Mackmyra. The 'Malstrom', which translates as Vortex, is aged in very small 30 litre casks made from a variety of different wood types and is made using smoked malt (typical whisky casks range from 200 litres up to over 400 litres). The use of such small casks encourages faster maturation of the spirit and greater extraction of flavour and colour from the wood. Nose: Smoked green rhubarb, gooseberry jam, some clove spice and floral notes, lavender honey, elderflower cordial, pears in stock syrup, juniper, pink grapefruit. Palate: Smoked gorse, heather, elderflower honey, grapefruit, smoked lemon curd, green pear, summer meadows, lime cordial. Finish: Subtle and aromatic smoke with floral and herbal notes, elderflower, lime curd and ripe pear.
