Wine maker notes Noble and generous, glory of old Piedmont, a wine suitable for long aging, Barolo is the absolute master of the table. It conquers the palate with the conviction of strength, harmony and fullness and holds its sway at length. The ”Conca dell’Abbazia dell’Annunziata” (The hollow of the Abbey of our Lady of the Annunciation) is one of the oldest sub zones of the entire Barolo District, an area already appreciated by the Benedictine Monks for its particular soil and microclimate. Growing here is the purple red ”Anemone Coronaria” flower, a one-of-a-kind rarity in the entire Langhe region. The Barolo Marcenasco Conca is boldly full-bodied and tannic.
Food pairing A great wine for important dishes, red meats on the spit or grilled, game, ”grande cuisine” white and red meat dishes and aged cheeses.
Producer In 1965, Renato Ratti bought his first vineyard for the production of Barolo, in the historical zone of Marcenasco, right below the Abbey of L’Annunziata at La Morra. In 1969, his nephew, Massimo Martinelli, joined the company and together, they perfected a technique of vinification, maturation and refinement for their Marcenasco Barolo, with the declared aim of obtaining the elegance, subtlety and longevity worthy of the variety’s full potential. Since then, Renato Ratti has become an important point of reference for Langhe wines and Italian wines in general
