Review Although this winery is owned by Chapoutier it operates autonomously, with its own dedicated vineyard, winery and commercial team. Quality here is now the best it’s been since Michel Chapoutier first partnered with Michel Ferraton in 1998. Much credit must go to winemaker Damien Brisset, who arrived here from Bordeaux in 2005, right after Chapoutier bought out the Ferraton family in 2004. A new winery was put in place starting with the 2013 vintage and results were positive and immediate, such that one must now count Ferraton as one of the leading producers in the region, for white as well as red wines. The single-site bottlings here are serious, top-tier wines that are underpriced, for now, considering the quality they deliver. Producer The land and the people who tend it share the same history. A history which grows from generation to generation. At the origin, one man, Jean Orens Ferraton. Vigneron, and son of a vigneron. A region basked in sun, the Rhone Valley. It was 1946. The story begins. Michel, his son, inherited the same passion. He decided to give a new dimension to his father’s vineyards. The first Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph Ferraton were brought into the world. A close friend of the Ferratons’, Michel Chapoutier brought his know-how.
