Wine maker notes Fruit for this wine is sourced from select vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills, one of California’s premiere cool-climate viticultural regions. This appellation is known for producing fantastic Pinot Noirs. The soils are maritime limestone based and the weather is consistently cool thanks the moist ocean breezes that sweep through the vineyards daily. The cool, windy, rolling appellation is planted to a combination of heritage, heirloom, and other specifically selected clones including clone 2a and Pommard 667.
Producer Fog Theory is a quality, cool-climate Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara. 2013 marks the inaugural vintage of this brand. The Pacific Ocean’s foggy marine layer and the cool ocean breezes that sweep through the vineyards create an ideal environment for growing Pinot Noir. The name Fog Theory is based on the important fog that rolls in from the Pacific Ocean through the east-west mountain range corridor, an unusual break in California’s north-south running coastal range. It is the cool air the fog produces that provides the perfect climate for Pinot Noir. This wine is exemplificative of its cool growing region and exhibits the highest quality standard from cultivation to vinification. The winemaker allows the terroir to shine so that our Pinot Noir is an authentic expression of the site on which it is grown.
