This cuvee comes from an outstanding small terroir (1. 15 hectares), Les Cras, located in the commune of Davaye. The vines face south by south-east, on gentle slopes at an altitude of 220 metres. The have a stony, limestone-rich soil that confers a refined, mineral taste to the wine, which also features depth, intensity, and length. The vines are twenty years old and have an average yield of 55/60 hectolitres per hectare. Wine maker notes Our Saint-Veran wines have a refined personality and a somewhat more opulent flavour on the palate. Connoisseurs appreciate them because of their complex bouquet of fruit (peach, pear), white flowers, almond, and honey, accompanied by mineral overtones. Our vineyard plots are ideally suited to Chardonnay, producing elegant designer wines that fully reflect the richness of their terroir and vintage character. Noteworthy recent years at our domaine are 1989, 1990, 1995, 1999, 2001 et 2005, all of which produced marvellous wines. To accompany a special event, an outstanding moment, or a celebration, our Saint-Veran cuvees will not disappoint an experience not to be missed!
Producer The commune of Davaye is located in the southern part of Burgundy, in the heart of the Macon wine country near Cluny and west of Macon. Our small winegrowing village is nestled at the foot of the Roche de Solutre and the Roche de Vergisson. The beautiful view of steep slopes from Les Valanges is like a picture post card of the Macon region. We created this domaine in 1980. At the time, all the vineyards were in the commune of Davaye, and totalled 2. 5 hectares. For the past 27, however, we have worked tirelessly to expand the estate. We also built a facility where the wine is made, stored, and prepared for shipment. It also houses a barrel cellar. Little by little, we acquired several plots with just the right terroir, and our vineyards now cover 11 hectares in Davaye, of which 8 are entitled to the Saint Veran appellation. We have always been passionately attached to this land, faithful to the terroir, and committed to making unique wines from the limestone soil. Our 11 hectares of vines are located halfway up the slope in climats, or vineyard sites, that are among the best in the Macon region. Sun exposure is south by south-east and the soil in all instances clay-limestone (mostly limestone). Most of the vines grow at an altitude of 200-300 metres. This terroir is wonderful for Chardonnay, producing very expressive, mineral, floral wines with a great deal of fruit.
