Dark Origins has been released in recognition of the dark history of the Highland Park distillery and it's smuggler founder Magnus Eunson. A fantastic dram which has been produced using 1st and 2nd fill ex- Oloroso Sherry casks. Nose: Smoked heather honey over hot coals, rich toffee, mocha, aromatic spices (cinnamon/star anise/clove) oily orange, bitter high cocoa chocolate,fig jam on malt loaf, butterscotch, leather or wet suede. Palate: Big and chewy sweet combination of smoke, toffee, chocolate and mocha with peppery oak, liquorice, waxy orange, earthy peat, heather, blackcurrant conserve and blueberry fruityness. Finish: Peppery figs smoked over a peat bonfire, sweet toffee, charcoal chocolate, heather honey, aromatic spices, and rich oak. Falls in love with Highland Park all over again with this release that puts to bed the arguement that non age statement whiskies are not as good as something with a number on the label. A stunning dark and moody Highland Park that you will want to curl up with when the nights start drawing in.
