| In the west of Sicily, in one of those areas where it is more suitable for the vineyard cultivation to grow, just there, where the sun sets behind the Egadi Isles; on that hill that Arabs called Musita, the hope of five generations created the legend of one family. It was at the end of the nineteenth century when Ignazio Ardagna, a forward man who was in love with his land, planted the first vineyard on the Musita sides hoping to establish a dream. Just few stumps of Catarratto were cultivated with endless love. He had to struggle for a really unique fruit. Ignazio?s sons, Domenico as well as Giuseppe, have inherited their father?s enthusiasm. Ignazio taught them how to cultivate those lands with care and devotion. In the 70s, some farmers founded a growers cooperative and built a cellar over that same hill where the Ardagnas have been cultivating their own vineyards for more than one century. In that cellar Giuseppe has given the fruits of his labour but still desired to let his sons unfold the story of that unique fruit being grown above that charming land. Nowadays the Ardagnas old dream has come true. They have amazingly acquired and renovated that old cellar. They are cultivating 50 hectares of vineyard, some of them are on the sides of Musita with new techniques but still with the same passion. several kinds of products like Catarratto, Grillo, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Nero d?Avola are produced Just there in Salemi, on that hill of Musita, which is 500 meters above the sea . The family management is independently working on the cultivation of vineyards and the other processes of the work (in vineyard and cellar) are made with the expertise of agronomy and enology which purpose is to give value to the product of that wonderful land. Thus, we can say that in Musita we find traditions mixed with technology, history with innovation, devotion with wisdom, dream with reality. |
