1980 was a Vintage year in the Douro Valley, so it is perfect grapes that are the basis of this Colheita - but unlike the traditional vintage wines, a Colheita is allowed to mature in the large casks - and time and oxygen help to give the amber-golden color and the caramel and spice-scented notes. This Colheita is another example of the quality of the port wines that Carvalhas produces. The wine has a nice golden-brown color with lively core. The scent has dark caramel and layers of dried fruit - here there is sweetness, acid and spice in a beautiful combination and the many years in the bottle have only concentrated the flavors further.
Serve in ordinary white wine glasses at 10-12°C. Drink with soft cheeses or caramel desserts.
