The Chapoutier Bila Haut L'Esquerda 2019 is a distinguished red wine from the Côtes-du-Roussillon Villages Lesquerde appellation in the Roussillon region of southern France. Maison M. Chapoutier, established in 1808, is renowned for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture and expressive terroir-driven wines. The Bila-Haut estate, acquired by Michel Chapoutier in 1999, showcases the unique characteristics of the Roussillon terroir, particularly the granitic soils of Lesquerde. Wine Description This wine presents a deep, intense colour. The nose reveals maturity with aromas of black fruits and warm spices, complemented by floral notes (violet) and subtle smoky hints. On the palate, it is both supple and powerful, with tight, robust tannins leading to a fresh, lingering finish. The blend predominantly consists of Syrah, with Grenache and Carignan, harvested between mid-September and mid-October. The grapes undergo destemming, followed by a maceration period of approximately four weeks, with fermentation temperatures not exceeding 32°C. The wine is aged for 7-8 months in concrete vats. Accolades James Suckling: 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: 93 points Food Pairing This wine pairs excellently with hearty dishes such as osso buco or Provençal daube. These combinations enhance the wine's depth and character, creating an unforgettable dining experience.
