Catena Zapata was founded in 1902 by Italian immigrant Nicola Catena. Nicolás Catena Zapata, the third-generation vintner, was the driving force who challenged conventional wisdom in the 1980s and 1990s, pioneering high altitude viticulture in the Andean foothills to elevate the quality of Argentine wine. Wine Description On the nose, it is highly perfumed, offering layered notes of black fruits—like blackberries, black cherries, and black plums—alongside savory hints of green olive, tobacco, cigar box, and a stony, saline minerality. There are also subtle touches of vanilla and dark chocolate. This is a full bodied, tremendously complex, and refined wine. The palate unfolds with flavors of black cherry, cassis, red currant, eucalyptus, and black pepper.
