Barolo Baudana comes from one of the smallest and least-intervened crus in Serralunga dAlba, known for its old vines, wild vegetation, and unique microclimate. The vineyard sits between 350400 meters and is composed of compact blue marl and limestone, classic to this part of Serralunga. The Vajra family, who have stewarded the historic Baudana estate since 2009, maintain a hands-off, organic approach to farming and a deep respect for this nearly untouched site. rrGrapes are hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts in vertical wooden vats. Macerations are long, often exceeding 30 days, and aging takes place over 3 years in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by time in bottle prior to release. rrThe result is a Barolo that captures Serralungas raw power, but with quiet nobility. The nose is deep and savory, with notes of wild herbs, dark plum, tobacco, graphite, and anise. The palate is dense yet vertical, marked by firm tannins, mineral intensity, and a long, stony finish. Compared to its sibling, Cerretta, Baudana is more inward and brooding, but every bit as age-worthy. rrThis is a rare, soulful wine from a cru with very few producers, offering a pure expression of Serralunga heritage.
