Castiglion del Bosco, located in the northwest quadrant of Montalcino, is one of Tuscany’s most historic estates, dating back to the 12th century. Acquired by Massimo Ferragamo in 2003, the estate has undergone extensive restoration while maintaining a strong focus on terroir-driven winemaking. The winery is a proud member of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium, and the estate vineyards, set at altitudes between 350–460 metres, are organically farmed and celebrated for their elegance and structure. Wine Description This 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is a textbook expression of Sangiovese, showcasing a brilliant garnet hue with slight bricking at the rim, reflective of its bottle age. On the nose, it opens with layers of dried cherry, leather, and cedar, accented by earthy notes of forest floor and hints of balsamic. The palate is refined and harmonious, offering red currant and dried cranberry framed by firm yet silky tannins and a lingering finish of tobacco and spice. Accolades ● Wine Spectator – 92 points ● Wine Enthusiast – 94 points ● James Suckling – 93 points Food Pairing Pair this mature Brunello with braised veal shank, mushroom risotto, or aged Pecorino Toscano. The wine’s savoury notes and supple tannins harmonize beautifully with rich, umami-laden dishes. A perfect match to enhance the wine’s complexity.
