This wine originates from the United States, specifically the Napa Valley region of California. The grapes are sourced from the prestigious Hyde Vineyard in Carneros, which is nestled in the southern part of Napa Valley. Massican was established in the early 2000s as the Napa Valley’s first exclusively white wine winery. Winemaker Dan Petroski, who also spent nearly 15 years as winemaker for Napa's Larkmead, launched Massican as an ode to the Mediterranean and his time spent in Italy. Hyde Vineyard is one of California’s most famous and historic Chardonnay sites, founded by Larry Hyde in 1979. Wine Description On the nose, the wine typically presents alluring aromas of citrus zest, honey, and delicate spice. Other aromatic notes can include pineapple, lychee, gardenia, lemon curd, and white tea. The wine is made from 100% Chardonnay, specifically using the Musqué clone of Chardonnay. It is often described as medium-bodied to medium-plus bodied, showcasing a sleek, crisp, and linear style. The palate is vibrant and layered, offering flavours such as crunchy green apple, lemon cream, Meyer lemon, nectarine, and mango. A distinct sea salt minerality and lively acidity are hallmarks of this wine. The finish is typically crisp and lingering, carrying a filigreed minerality. Food Pairing This Chardonnay's full-bodied texture and citrus notes make it an excellent match for rich seafood dishes, such as olive oil poached swordfish or Venetian Bay scallops. Its rich and complex profile also pairs perfectly with the luxurious flavours of white truffle risotto. Suggested pairings also include roast white meats, meaty fish, and dishes with white sauces. Together, they create an unforgettable dining experience.
