Citadelle 'No Mistake' Old Tom Gin is a French gin from the Charente region. It is produced by Maison Ferrand, a company known for its Plantation rum and Cognac. Citadelle Gin was founded in 1996 and is recognized as a pioneer of craft gin globally. The 'No Mistake' Old Tom Gin is a tribute to the gin traditions of 18th and 19th-century England, inspired by a popular 19th-century gin recipe. Gin Description This Old Tom gin has an amber or golden hue from its barrel aging. The aroma is fresh and intense, with predominant notes of juniper and orange zest, followed by cardamom. The nose also has hints of wood and spice, with standout notes of cubeb and stewed raisins. On the palate, it is rich, full, and elegant with a bittersweet profile. It features notes of candied lemon zest, anise, and almond, which lead to spicy hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, and cubeb pepper. The finish is long and refined, with floral, spicy, and woody nuances. This gin is slightly sweeter than a London Dry gin but drier than a Genever. The gin is a combination of Citadelle Réserve and toasted, barrel-aged Caribbean cane sugar. The sugar is toasted in copper cauldrons and then aged in barrels for three to four months with a small amount of gin. The sweetened gin is then aged further in casks, some of which are former Ferrand barrels. The process includes three separate aging steps, making it unusual in its category.
