Each year our Master Distiller, John Campbell, handcrafts a limited edition malt to celebrate friendship (?Cairdeas? in Gaelic). The 2015 bottling is produced from of our finest floor malting's malt, distilled using only the smaller stills and fully matured in our famous No1 warehouse, right by the sea. Cairdeas 2015 is therefore John's interpretation of how Laphroaig would have been produced at the distillery 200 years ago. This results in a unique expression to be savoured by Friends of Laphroaig old and new. Laphroaig Cairdeas ? friendship distilled.
TASTING NOTES
NOSE: Initially a sweet note of red apple blossom moving quickly into a rich cask char flavour. Rock salt followed by creamy seaweed and dried apricots and then a dry, lingering finish.
PALATE: Earthy peat, then a fruity salty combination and huge iodine and black pepper feeling that runs all the way through the initial phase of Cairdeas 2015. The never ending peaty tones move slightly into a liquorice toffee note and it really has amazing depth and balance between the peat, fruit, sweet and dry flavours. Berried oak finish.
