West Cork Distillers began in 2003 when three childhood friends, John O’Connell and cousins Ger and Denis McCarthy, started distilling in a room behind Denis's house in Union Hall, Ireland. Originally fishermen and a scientist, they had no formal background in distillation and built the company from the ground up with a focus on Irish-sourced grains and innovative techniques. The company has grown from its humble beginnings to become Ireland's largest independent distillery, now located in Skibbereen, with over 200 employees and products sold in more than 70 countries.
